Xer Technologies Set to Deliver Comprehensive Powerline Inspection Drone Solution to Zambia

Zürich, Switzerland – Xer Technologies AG, a Swiss manufacturer of advanced hybrid-electric unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for both defense and civilian applications (dual-use), is pleased to announce the extension of its solutions to Zambia, with the delivery of a complete, turnkey aerial powerline inspection package to Copperbelt Energy Corporate Plc (CEC), marking a significant step forward in modernizing grid inspection capabilities in Zambia and the broader Southern African region.
The system will be deployed on Xer’s long-endurance X8 platform, designed for industrial, civil as well as defense operations, requiring heavy payload capacity, extended range, and resilient communications.

Xer Technologies will ship the full solution in the coming weeks. As part of the delivery, CEC pilots and technical personnel will undergo comprehensive operational and mission-specific training at Xer’s facilities in Switzerland.

“We are proud to support Copperbelt Energy Corporation as they expand their capabilities in grid inspection and infrastructure monitoring,” said Erik Herlyn, CEO of Xer Technologies AG. “CEC plays a critical role in powering the region’s mining and industrial sectors. Our X8 platform, combined with this advanced sensor suite, will equip their teams with the precision, endurance, and safety needed for modern powerline operations.”

“Integrating the X8 into our drone fleet marks a major step forward in strengthening our asset inspection and monitoring capabilities. Its extended endurance and advanced payload options enable us to address specialised transmission network use cases with greater precision and efficiency. Maintaining the integrity and reliability of our infrastructure is critical to both our operations and the wider power ecosystem, and we are confident that Xer Technologies’ advanced platform will significantly enhance our inspection efficiency, data accuracy, and situational awareness across the network,” said Raphael Maseko, CECs Head of Telecommunications and Information Systems

This deployment reinforces the growing adoption of heavy-duty, long-endurance UAS platforms for energy infrastructure management across Africa, enabling safer and more effective inspection workflows, reduced downtime, and a more data-driven approach to asset performance.
